The Augusta NAPW Chapter met on Wednesday, August 3rd at 7:00 PM for their launch meeting at Ryan's Steakhouse in Augusta, GA. Ryan's Steakhouse has a wide variety of foods on their buffet, from appetizers to dessert. It is a very friendly atmosphere to enjoy dinner with family and friends.
Sue Pellerin, President of the Augusta Chapter kicked off the meeting by welcoming everyone. Attendees were asked to introduce themselves and provide background information about their businesses and families. Everyone dropped their business cards in a basket to choose the next speaker for our September meeting. The person chosen was Monica Wilson. Attendees were given notebooks, packets of information regarding the NAPW website, and welcome information. There were also tickets put in another drawing for a $25.00 gift card at the end of the meeting.
Attendees present for the meeting included Sherry Pierre, Independent Associate & Director with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.; Beverly Lowrey, Sales Associate & Realtor with Blanchard & Calhoun; Tina Lott, Owner of Ever Clean Cleaning Service; Monica Wilson, Real Estate Agent with Century 21 who is already a member of the Columbia, SC Chapter, but will be joining our local Augusta Chapter, as it is closer to her home.
Sue spoke at the meeting. She is an Independent Senior Associate with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. She also has owned her own in-home Bookkeeping & Tax Service for the past 20 years. From 1997 to 2001, she also owned and operated two Sonic Drive-In Restaurants in the Aiken, SC area. She has also worked in a variety of Restaurants as a server, trainer, supervisor and manager. She has 3 children and 6 grandchildren, and spends all of her spare time with her family and friends. As an Independent Associate with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Sue markets affordable legal service membership plans throughout the United States and Canada for families and businesses that need legal assistance. The membership gives families and businesses the opportunity to get help with their legal situations from top attorneys in the country, without the high cost of hourly attorney fees. It also gives employers an opportunity to offer the plans to their employees as a benefit much like health insurance at a special group rate. Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. also offers a business opportunity to those who would like to make extra part-time income from home. With 1.5 million members, Sue is looking for other members to join the company, and an associate to help her market these legal service plans and offer them to families and businesses who need help with their legal situations.
Attendees were placed in the $25.00 Visa gift card drawing. The winner of the gift card was Beverly Lowrey; Sales Associate & Realtor with Blanchard & Calhoun. Prizes were also given throughout the meeting for listening about the speaker's business.
"The NAPW Augusta Chapter has elected to participate in events throughout the CSRA Augusta area as they take place," Sue said. Sherry Pierre suggested the chapter help support Dress for Success, by donating clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry and accessories. Tina Lott suggested that the group take part in an opportunity to participate and lead the cotillions at Paine College for all of their formal events. These events will be posted as details become available. Sue Pellerin asked attendees to also let her know of any other events that may be happening in the city of Augusta or in the surrounding areas.
Sue Pellerin asked for volunteers to help with various activities for the Chapter. Monica Wilson volunteered to help with setting up for the meetings, planning events for our chapter, and planning birthdays for members each month. Sherry Pierre volunteered to help set up and clean up at our meetings, planning birthdays for members, help to shop for events, and contact guest speakers. Beverly Lowrey volunteered to help plan events, take pictures, contact guest speakers, and plan Birthdays for members each month.
Sue Pellerin awarded Welcome Pins to the attendees as a welcome gift. She also invited the attendees who are not yet members to join the Augusta Chapter by going to the NAPW website at http://www.napw.com and filling out the application. Sue suggested that the chapter help bring more professional women together by posting flyers at members' places of business, sending out invitations, and simply by just spreading the word about the new professional networking women's organization in the Augusta, GA area.
The Augusta Chapter Meetings will be held on Wednesdays each month in Augusta, GA at Ryan's Steakhouse on Bobby Jones Expressway and will be posted on the Augusta Chapter page of the NAPW website for future reference as follows: September 14, October 19, November 16, and December 14. Any changes to this schedule will be posted on the website. The 2012 meetings will be posted at a later date.
Upcoming chapter events include the CSRA Business League Benefit. This is a benefit at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Augusta, GA for those who would like to promote their business with other like businesses on August 18th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The next Local Augusta Chapter NAPW meeting will be held on September 14th, at 7:00 PM at Ryan's Steakhouse in Augusta, GA. Plans for this meeting will i women's jackets nclude speaker, Monica Wilson, Realtor with Century 21, a prize auction among all attendees and guests, more drawings for prizes, business card exchanges and much, much more.
